To prove your willingness and loyalty to the order, your middle finger is removed. If it wasn't cut off, then whenever the hidden blade came out it would cut right into your hand. Ezio got a remodeled version of the hidden blade so he got to keep his finger.

How did he not lose a finger??? And I never learned how he lost his arm... only that Altair blames himself.

Robert De Sable, leader of the Templars in the 3rd Crusade, was in the Temple. He was in between the Assassins and the object they'd been sent to retrieve.

Abandoning the Creed and ignoring Malik and Kadar, Altair revealed himself, got thrown through into another room, and was trapped. Malik and Kadar were left to fight off many Templars, which was the death of Kadar. Malik managed to retrieve what they'd come for and flee, but not without a severe wound to his arm.

So yeah.

Ohhh shit.... I just remembered.... that was in the beginning X____X I didn't remember much nor did I focus much on it I was still frustrated trying to learn how to move and fight lol I recall now I should google a vid of the beginning to refresh my memories lol

That's why Altair was being such a know-it-all lol
